Looking forward to joining Brent Reynolds , Eric Walker and Jeanot Dawson at the Canadian Finance Summit to discuss Preparing for the Credit Downturn. Can't help thinking of Douglas Adams's bowl of petunias, but I'm sure this panel will have a lot more constructive insight. See you there! May 2026Today, I'm proud to share that Neo Financial has closed its inaugural $150M credit card securitization with BMO Capital Markets and SAF Group , our first institutional capital markets transaction. What this means in practice: capital that goes directly into funding credit for Canadians who want access to better financial products. While our customers may only see the products and features we launch, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes. The infrastructure, the capital partners, the credit modeling - all core components to building a solid financial foundation to serve and scale to millions of Canadians. Proud of the Neo team and thanks to BMO Capital Markets , SAF Group , and to all of our customers for trusting us. https://lnkd.in/gSJprPuS

Apr 2026Some months ago we here at Neo Financial made the decision of moving towards a single code base for our Front-End stack. This decisions didn't come lightly, we want to be intentional on our goal of providing the best banking solutions for Canadians. Because we have a lot of ideas of great features that we want to have, we needed to find a way to deliver this value fast to our users. We also need to make sure that our quality gate is always top notch. This meant that we needed a platform that allows us to deliver value in a safe way that our user's experience with Neo is the same regardless of the client(Apple, Android or Web) that they are using to interact with us. We looked at various options and arrived at the decision that React Native would be the best solution for us. But with this decision came some challenges, one of which was to make sure we have a team that can deliver using this new platform. At Neo we have developers that come from different backgrounds and skills, our hiring focus on bringing in strong and smart talent that understands the fundamentals of software development. Given that, we decided to focus on making sure our team was empowered to deliver the value that we expect on this new platform. For 5 days we conducted training sessions to prepare developers to be able to code in React Native. Because of that difference in backgrounds, we decided to run pre-training sessions focused on getting people ready to learn about React Native. For web developers we run a full day session explaining how mobile development works, we showed the basics of Swift and Kotlin, deploys, release trains, app and play store approvals and the architecture we use. For the mobile developers we ran a 2 full days sessions to cover Javascript basics(and some not so basic stuff like Promises, async, and high order functions), Typescript(Interfaces, enums, generics, utility types, etc), deep dive into React(as React Native is very much based on React), CSS and Tailwind, and how we use React at Neo(conventions, architecture, etc). After that the whole team had the tools needed to learn about React Native. So we took another full day to teach the Basics of React Native(main differences from React, hardware access, navigation, etc), and how we decided to use React Native here at Neo(our component library, our version of the VIPER architecture, Uniwind with variants, etc). So far the feedback has been positive, people feel like they have the tools they need to be able to help Neo in our road towards a single code base for the Front-end with React Native. If you're a strong developer and feel like this, or other challenges like this are the kind of thing that you want to be a part of, please reach me out on a DM for us to chat :)

Apr 2026Building a company is hard, so you want to work with hard-working people. Yet as a startup moves from the seed or MVP phase, to growth phase, to rocket-ship Artemis II phase, the definition of hard-work changes too. The dash becomes a sprint, the sprint turns into a marathon, the marathon becomes an ultra-marathon. Is there an ultra-ultra marathon? Giga-marathon?! Our company needs to be fast, focused, and hard-working, more than ever! But we don't just need to "burst off the starting line" anymore. The speed we need won't come from pulling last minute "all-nighters" or from hero solo efforts; no shame on doing that at early startups! We did our share, and I'd do it again. But that kind of tactic simply no longer has enough thrust to lift a 5,000,000lb rocket-ship to the moon. Forget what you know about startups; we aren't at Neo grinding 80 hours a week, pounding energy drinks with bags under our eyes. It's not about burning ourselves out, we're certainly not here to hurt ourselves, get divorces, alienate our families, or drop our hobbies. What would be the point? So what does hard work at a startup like Neo really mean? We're still working frigging hard. I know I work hard and I see the team working hard too. We put in our best every week, and it's rewarding to do that. I enjoy being surrounded by like-minded people with passion and a good work ethic; I've been on some lazy teams and it sucked. I like the kind of hard working people who put Alberta on the map, the kind of hard working people who just plain succeed in life. But to scale it up - we've been hiring more managers and leaders to keep teams running smoothly. Paying people pretty well. Making longer-term, more stable roadmaps. Standardizing around proven agile processes. Buying better tools for the team. Adding more Senior Engineers for a bigger focus on long term architecture, maintainability, and even (finally) good documentation. We adopted work from home days for flexibility; we increased paid vacation, and invested in our work environment. Working hard has never been easier to sustain. Want to join a hard working team - but also have a life? I'm hiring for our on-site Calgary team; be one of the Engineering Leads, Senior Engineers, or even a Director of Engineering that is joining to drive this vision with me. careers.neofinancial.com #hiring #calgary #techjobs #startup #softwaredev
