Every agent demo works. Almost none survive production. The gap isn't the model. It's engineering: exit conditions, tool contracts, guardrails, memory that doesn't rot, evals you actually trust. The Agentic Engineer closes that gap — designing, evaluating, and operating multi-agent systems in production, with a companion repo that builds one real agent chapter by chapter. Jul 20265 things I'm still thinking about from the AirOps Next event in New York yesterday: 1) Austin Lau from Anthropic, their first growth hire, said the biggest thing non-technical teams haven't done yet is encode their workflows into Claude skills that live at the company level, not in one person's head. He's also hiring for SEO. What he wants: first principles practitioners who then use Claude to go AI-native. Kevin Indig's data showed those roles pay 25% more. 2) Kevin Indig shared that one of his clients lost 50% of organic traffic and gained 20% in conversions. I'm seeing similar patterns across my B2B clients. Purchase intent didn't disappear. Clicks did. If you're still leading with traffic in your monthly reports, you're measuring the wrong thing. 3) Airbnb Experiences was at 0% AI mention rate for "things to do in Paris." Zero. One of the most iconic brands in the world. In under a month with a structured on-site and off-site strategy, they hit 5% and moved from competitive position #6 to #1. Speed of change in AI search is nothing like traditional SEO timelines. 4) Paul Jun , Ramp's brand lead, built an automated white paper tool that generated $5.6M in sales-qualified pipeline. Not hours saved. Pipeline. Brand is no longer a cost center when the systems are built right. 5) YouTube is now the most cited domain in AI overviews. More than Reddit. When Google shows AI overviews, clicks on Reddit and YouTube go up by two-thirds because people validate AI answers with human-generated content. Full breakdown with speaker insights, data points, product announcements, and my analysis in the article I published this morning. Link below... Big thanks to the AirOps team and all of the presenters and panelists: Alex Halliday (AirOps CEO), Matt Hammel (AirOps COO), Austin Lau (Anthropic), Kevin Indig , Tara Robertson (Bitly), Bridget Nelson (Chime), Antoine Sochat (Airbnb Experiences), Paul Jun (Ramp), Leland Maschmeyer (Collins), James Hurst (HelloFresh), Kira Klaas (ex-Notion/Brex/Later), Kyle Poyar , Ashland Stansbury (AirOps), Bryan Connally (AirOps), Amr Shafik (AirOps), Jessica Rosenberg (AirOps), Ali (Nichols) McCarty (AirOps) Was also great seeing familiar faces, and meeting new folks who shared great insights - Tom Critchlow , Josh Spilker , Mike Beyman , Danny Ha , Elliot Glass , Romain Damery , Kayla Doty , Justin Fisher , Marcos Torres
May 2026It was a fantastic week in NYC. I've spent the last two weeks getting new strategy docs together for my team coming out of all the amazing talks at SEO Week . We've got some big things ahead of us to stay ahead of the curve. While ALL of the talks were mind-blowing 🤯, my favorite part of the week was finally getting to meet people I look up to like Garrett Sussman , Noah Learner , and Ross Simmonds . As well as getting to reconnect with a former coworker IRL Amanda Milligan . Plus all the new friends like Jori Ford , Azeem Ahmad, Bianca aka Binks A. , and Ryan Jones . And of course, I'm still riding the high from taking the stage for the first time. Is it time for SEO Week 2027, yet?!?
May 2026Who will I see in Boston next month at SMX - Search Marketing Expo Advanced? I'm so excited to talk about the art of leveraging one SME conversation into multiple assets across channels, because brand discovery doesn't just happen on Google. Creating cohesive experiences and conversations across the entire content ecosystem can help your brand show up everywhere people are searching. Not to mention, it gives every channel more content to leverage with less lift. My session is on June 3 at 2 p.m. Will you be there?
May 2026I got to meet so many awesome people I "knew" behind a screen in IRL for the first time. I was so happy to meet Crystal W. after we had already chatted on her podcast. It was easy! It still blows my mind when people want my thoughts on something and want to chat with ME about something in SEO. But you know I have to show up with the data 👇 43% of workers say they experience impostor feelings at work. With Personal perfectionism (guilty) and comparison to high-achieving peers (guilty) contributing to the self-doubt. But the best part about these networking events is realizing we're all in the same boat. And it's a wild time out here, especially for SEOs.
May 2026📚 Observing & Learning Design Patterns - #4 Ever wondered what happens the second you buy a hosting plan? One click. Behind the scenes, everything fires at once. If your systems aren't built for this... it breaks. Think about platforms like Bluehost , GoDaddy , or Hostgator.com .... the moment an order confirms, multiple systems need to react instantly. The naive approach? Direct calls. dnsService.setup (); sslService.generate(); emailService.send (); billingService.createInvoice(); It works... until it doesn't. Add one new service and you're touching core logic again. Add five more and every change becomes a risk. 😵💫 The Observer Pattern solves this cleanly ✨ Instead of calling every service directly, the system publishes a single event: eventPublisher.publish(new HostingProvisionedEvent(user)); Every subscribed service reacts on its own, without knowing or caring what the others do. 🔁 DNS Service reacts 🔁 SSL Service reacts 🔁 Email Service reacts 🔁 Billing Service reacts 🔁 Monitoring Service reacts The result: ✔️ Loosely coupled services ✔️ New services plug in without touching existing logic ✔️ Failures isolate instead of cascade ✔️ Systems that actually scale I built a full Java simulation of this - complete UML diagrams, architecture flow, and a real hosting provisioning walkthrough. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gUFRnHeS 💡 Real insight: At scale, no single service can afford to know or care what the others do. Events make that possible. And honestly? You don't have to explicitly study design patterns to learn them. Just observe what's already happening in your workplace. 💯 Observer works beautifully within a system. But what happens when your system grows into many systems? That's a story for post #5 👀 If you missed post #3 on the Registry Pattern and Factory mess, link in the comments. 👇 Have you run into tightly coupled systems in your own work? How did you handle it? #DesignPatterns #ObserverPattern #Java #SystemDesign #EventDrivenArchitecture #BackendEngineering #SoftwareArchitecture
May 2026I love getting to geek out with fellow SEOs! Episode 2 of my convo with Crystal W. is live! Check it out!
