Mental Health Awareness Week is a chance to pause, reflect, and check in, with ourselves and with others. In roles like fire engineering and many others, we work under pressure, responsibility, and in safety-critical environments. That’s exactly why looking after our wellbeing matters so much. This week, I’m encouraging one simple action: check in. Ask “How are you?” but don’t stop there. Ask again: “Really, how are you?” Say it to a colleague, a neighbour, the bus driver, a barista, a security officer - anyone. Then take a few minutes to truly listen. That second question makes people pause. It shows you care. It gives them permission to step out of autopilot and be real even if just for a moment. This is something I’ve learned deeply from my late son, who passed away at the end of 2024. He taught me that even a brief moment of genuine attention can mean more than we realise. Sometimes, people’s silence holds a story and being present is enough to start making a difference. So here’s my challenge for the rest of the week and into the weekend: - Ask twice. - Listen for five minutes. You never know the impact you might have. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #CheckIn #Wellbeing #Leadership #BeKind #Listen
May 2026I recently took a well needed break with my daughter in Paris over Easter, after an incredibly busy last quarter, and it was exactly what we both needed. Some of my favourite moments are captured in these simple iPhone photos. No filters, no heavy edits, just natural light, good angles, and a beautiful backdrop. What makes them even more special is that they were taken by my 11 year old, who even uses subtle blur effects to highlight certain areas and bring focus to the shot. There’s something powerful about seeing creativity through a child’s perspective 💜 It’s a reminder that creativity doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be nurtured. In a world where more and more people are leaning on AI for creative output, I want to be clear, I genuinely love AI. It’s an incredible tool, it can support us, unblock us, and enhance ideas in ways we couldn’t imagine before. But it shouldn’t replace the instinct, curiosity, and imagination that come naturally to us. After all, without human creativity, AI wouldn’t even exist.💡 Let’s keep encouraging it, especially in the next generation. #Creativity #HumanCreativity #AI #Innovation #Inspiration #Mindset #NextGeneration #photography
