Congratulations to Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) on earning top marks from patients. Of course clinical excellence is important in patient satisfaction, but there's so much more. As someone who works in public health and health communications, too often I hear people talking about patient satisfaction as if it exists separately from communication strategy. I've even been asked, "What's the ROI?" when I talk about the importance of effective and empathetic communications with patients. But here's the thing: clear, empathetic, and consistent communication is one of the most important levers we have to improve outcomes, reduce anxiety, build trust, and help patients feel truly supported throughout their care journey. The best healthcare organizations understand that every interaction communicates something; from educational materials, to provider conversations, to follow-up instructions, to the way patients are guided through moments of uncertainty. Patient-centered communication is truly foundational to quality care. Well deserved recognition for the HSS team. https://lnkd.in/e_9Wd9n7
May 2026I talk a lot about "humanizing" people in healthcare. And that goes two ways: both in showing empathy and understanding for patients, and in recognizing that they themselves have feelings and cannot always be expected to be superheroes. So I love that this article from the Cleveland Clinic touches on both of those areas in discussing how to handle tough conversations in cancer care. It talks to physicians about the importance of both: 1. Supporting patients with compassion and acknowledging their suffering AND 2. Giving themselves space to have their their own reactions to these conversations, and prioritizing self care Taking care of people in healthcare is just as important as taking care of patients. It's only by prioritizing both that we can improve outcomes for everyone. https://lnkd.in/ebdqQ9fK
May 2026I asked kids to fix one of our worst habits. They used crayons. Today is 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗗𝗮𝘆, so we launched the stairWELL Art Exhibit: children's artwork, framed and hung in the stairwell to make people WANT to take the stairs, not the elevator. It works on two levels: The first is movement. The research is unambiguous: → Art in stairwells increases stair use by ~40% → Stairs burn 8× more calories per minute than the elevator → Regular stair use is linked to 33% lower mortality risk The stairwell has always been the healthiest path. It just needed a reason to feel like one. The second is awe. Like movement, awe isn't soft, it's hard health. Researchers like Dacher Keltner at UC Berkeley have shown awe lowers inflammatory cytokines, quiets the brain's default mode network — the seat of rumination and maybe even of "food noise" — and measurably expands your sense of time. A 30-second immersive climb through a gallery of children's art can do more than elevate a heart rate, it can relieve stress. Two dozen kids, all children of building employees, donated their art to this stairwell to give us a daily dose of wonder and movement. The best health interventions don't feel like interventions at all. They feel like a painting of a dinosaur in a stairwell, made by a four-year-old named Cadence. With any luck, you'll arrive at that meeting just a little more alive. Take the stairWELL! #BringYourKidToWorkDay #Awe #stairWELL #Noom
Apr 2026San Diego last week was exactly what I needed. 🌊 Spent a few incredible days at The Conference Board surrounded by clients, former and current colleagues, and so many brilliant new faces — and it reminded me just how irreplaceable in-person connection really is. There's something that happens in those hallway conversations, shared meals, and end-of-session huddles that no video call can replicate. Ideas spark differently. Relationships deepen faster. And you walk away genuinely energized. To everyone I reconnected with — it was long overdue. To the new connections made — I'm glad our paths crossed. And to the experts in the room who challenged my thinking — thank you. Already looking forward to the next one. 🙌
Apr 2026Thanks, MedCity News and Katie Adams for a great conversation about Noom 's recent release of Health Record Connect and our participation in the CMS Health Technology Ecosystem initiative!
Apr 2026Excited for the launch of the GLP-1 Insurance Checker, the first of a number of important initiatives this year to expand access to cutting-edge brand-name oral GLP-1s, paired with Noom's leading companion behavior program.
Apr 2026We’re looking for an experienced, USA-based freelance package designer at Noom If you have a recommendation (or it’s you 👀), feel free to drop a portfolio below or send it my way!
Apr 2026Derek Flanzraich asked a provocative question: “Is it possible GLP-1s are more mental health than metabolic health drugs? In a world that feels increasingly loud these days, maybe the real promise of GLP-1s is simply less noise.” That framing matters: By quieting “food noise,” these medications may free up mental bandwidth—making space for healthy behavior. The opportunity then is using that GLP-1 window to build habits, abilities, and a choice architecture that will last. Really enjoyed this conversation with Derek—more here: https://lnkd.in/eWHF9MhR
Apr 2026Last July, I stood in a room at the White House and made a pledge. Noom joined a group of digital health companies committing to the CMS Health Technology Ecosystem — a public-private initiative to fix one of American healthcare's most persistent problems: patient data lives in silos. It doesn't travel. That leaves doctors, apps, and care programs working from an incomplete picture. Today, eight months later, alongside partners b.well Connected Health and CLEAR , we're delivering on our pledge. 𝗡𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 is now live for Medicare members. For the first time, members can securely verify their identity, consent to share their clinical records, and receive a Noom experience shaped by what their doctors actually know about them — not just what they filled out on an intake form. A member with prediabetes gets the prevention content built for them. A member on a GLP-1 gets the companion experience designed around their medication journey. The program meets them where they are, clinically. This matters because 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀. Behavior change is most durable when it's built on a complete picture — what someone is managing, what their doctors know, what their biology is telling them. That's what we've always believed at Noom — and now, for Medicare members, we can actually act on it. This is just the beginning. A healthcare system that actually works for patients — connected, coordinated, built around them — is possible. We're building it, one integration at a time. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSBFMwg9
