What a moment for Scotland's AI community via @FinTech Scotland. OpenAI choosing Edinburgh-founded Tomoro as the founding acquisition for its new $4bn Deployment Company is the strongest single endorsement of Edinburgh's AI engineering depth that this ecosystem has had in years. Around 150 specialists move on day one, backed by TPG, Advent, Bain Capital and Brookfield. Huge congratulations to the Tomoro team. The next question is the harder one - how do we make sure the next Scottish AI success story scales up here, not away from us? Worth reading and worth thinking about. #ScotlandAI #Edinburgh #UKTech
May 2026Another extraordinarily fun year at BBC Comedy Festival catching up with pals old and new - genuinely not sure if I was more starstruck by Palin or the Homunculi (watch Small Prophets if you haven’t already!!)
May 2026And so my time at OAG comes to an end. Thank you to Team Marketing for a wonderful two and a bit years! Delighted to announce I'll be spending this next chapter doing the most logical thing you can do during 'one of the worst job markets since time began' (Source: Every video on my TikTok FYP) and making this daft little thing I've been writing for the past few months. I'm lucky to have worked with some incredibly talented folks on it so far and can't wait to see what comes next as we enter production. Let's make a show, baby!! See you at the BAFTAs (if you can't be delusional on LinkedIn, where can you)
May 2026Happy Thursday: The better companies in travel are competing on who can convert data into a decision: faster, with more confidence, at the point where it matters - for their internal systems and their users. At OAG , this is the space we are leaning into. Intelligence, going beyond data. Products built around decisions, going beyond datasets. And the technology to back it up: cross-domain intelligence, integrated data sets and access, and a single layer across everything we hold. As an industry, we are evolving our needs to unified data, answers, and context. This thinking has been shaped by the people doing the hard work inside OAG and sharpened by early conversations with customers and partners willing to challenge it. As we have embarked on a closer collaboration with our partners, the validation and advanced thinking gives us confidence and credibility we are on the right track. The new OAG website is live. It is a small signal of a much larger shift. With 97 years of building the foundations of data in our industry, we are now focused on what comes next. Now we are going beyond, to build for the next generation of technology and user needs. Onwards.
Apr 2026Please help... Scotland's entrepreneurial pipeline has never been stronger. Spending the last few years speaking to founders, scale-up leaders and investors across the country, I've seen it first hand - more great businesses emerging, more ambition, more genuine momentum. But reaching all those founders and scale-ups - understanding where they are, what they need, and how to support them - remains one of our biggest gaps. The Scaling Scotland report was direct about it. Recommendation 2 called for a single, real-time view of every scale-up in the country, so the right support finds the right business at the right time, rather than the loudest one. This survey is how that starts to get built. It takes 5 minutes. Please complete it and/or tag people you think should complete it: https://lnkd.in/dX9xgcKN Thank you! 🙏
Apr 2026I needed a GPS speedometer. Nothing fancy. Speed, coordinates, satellite signal. Play Market has hundreds of them. Every single one I tried wanted me to watch ads for a number that my phone already knows. Half of them refused to open without an internet connection. So I built my own using recently dropped Claude Opus-4.7. On the phone itself, in Termux, on a train ride. No laptop, no Android Studio, no Gradle. 200 lines of Java. 21 KB APK. Rebuilds in under 5 seconds. No trackers, no network permission, no ads. The interesting part is not that the app works. It is how low the barrier got. A phone, a terminal, and a good coding assistant is now a full dev environment for small utilities. Not every app needs to be a product with a funnel and a dashboard. Some of them can just be 21 KB of code that does exactly what you want, made by the person who wants it. #Android #Termux #ClaudeCode #SoftwareEngineering
