View source post⏱️ Ofcom 's Group Director for Online Safety, Oliver Griffiths, sets out our priorities for the coming year as we seek to make life safer online in the UK. Look out for: - A register of 'categorised services', who need to meet additional duties under the Online Safety Act (e.g. in some cases publishing transparency reports) - A draft Code of Practice for tackling fraudulent adverts. We'll be consulting on this Code shortly - New guidance from Ofcom following the introduction of new offences and duties in the Crime and Policing Act (e.g. duties to take down non-consensual intimate imagery in 48 hours) - A range of new regulatory activity if the government chooses to use its new powers to bring more chatbots in scope of the online safety regime Oliver also explains some of the challenges and tradeoffs that Ofcom faces as it oversees this regime - not least because the Act covers more than 130 priority offences and applies to over 100,000 online services. May 2026This is a timely consultation from us at Ofcom at an important moment for telecoms resilience and security. As #AI models rapidly increase cyber capability — lowering the barriers to identifying vulnerabilities, automating attacks and increasing the speed and scale of incidents — ensuring robust and consistent security reporting across the telecoms sector has never been more important. The UK’s telecoms networks are foundational national infrastructure, underpinning economic growth, public services and daily connectivity. Strengthening resilience in the face of evolving technological and environmental risks is essential. Particularly important proposals include: 🔷 More consistent incident reporting thresholds across fixed and mobile networks. 🔷 New reporting requirements for incidents affecting rural areas. 🔷 Improved incident reporting tools and processes. 🔷 An evolving supervisory approach to reflect a changing threat landscape. The deadline for responses is 4 August 2026. National Cyber Security Centre Ollie Whitehouse Richard Horne AI Security Institute Adam Beaumont
