May 2026“25% travel required.” This scenario came up for me this week: We qualify a role the Client advertises at 25% travel. Offer stage — it shifts: • ~35% to start • Potentially up to 40% if they land a couple of the projects they're targeting Candidate declined — that level of travel just wasn’t what he signed up for, but it raises a bigger question: We often bundle design, programming, and commissioning into one role. But should we? There’s a clear difference between engineers who want to design systems… and those who want to be in the field commissioning them. So the questions are: Should these roles be split more clearly, or is that crossover just part of the job? Would a clearer division help companies attract and retain top level talent?
