8 Claude Code commands that changed how I ship code. Most developers are still treating AI like a fancy autocomplete. The shift happens the moment you start treating it like an actual system. Here's what I've learned 👇 CLAUDE.md — your project's source of truth Think of it as an onboarding doc for your AI. Drop in your coding standards, architecture, and conventions once. No more repeating context in every chat. /plan — think first, code later Forces Claude to outline the approach before writing a single line. You get to challenge the logic upfront instead of fixing a messy output later. /agents — parallel execution Splits independent tasks across sub-agents so they run side by side. Perfect when nothing blocks anything else. /skills — stop reinventing the wheel If you're writing the same prompt on repeat, turn it into a reusable skill. Document once, use forever. /MCP — plug into your real stack Hook Claude directly into GitHub, Linear, Notion, your DB, your logs. Real context beats manual copy-paste every time. /compact — keep the signal, cut the noise Long sessions get bloated fast. This trims the history while keeping what matters. autodream — refines memory over time Lives inside /memory. Picks up on recurring patterns and quietly sharpens your project context as you work. /ralph-loop — autonomous iteration Not built in, but worth setting up. Keeps Claude looping on a task until it's actually done. Just remember to cap the iteration limit. The real unlock isn't "using AI." It's building the structure around it. Apr 2026Most developers think growth comes from writing better code. I used to think the same. Clean code. Fast delivery. PRs getting merged quickly. Everything felt right… until production started breaking. Not because of bugs. Because of decisions. Here are 5 lessons that changed how I think as a developer: 1️⃣ Simple > Clever Quick hacks work… until they don’t. Always add limits and safeguards. 2️⃣ Speed ≠ Scalability What works for 1 user can break with 30. Think about load early. 3️⃣ Ownership matters Shared databases feel easy, but they create hidden dependencies. Each service should own its data. 4️⃣ Avoid over-engineering If your system is hard to debug, it’s already a problem. Simple systems win in the long run. 5️⃣ Never trust external services They WILL fail. Always design with retries, fallbacks, and resilience. 💡 Biggest lesson: Don’t just build systems that work. Build systems that survive. Now I follow a simple habit after every issue: What broke? Why did it break? What did I change? That’s how real experience is built. #SoftwareEngineering #DevOps #SystemDesign #Programming #Learning
