Australia, you’ve really got something here with these ‘sausage sizzles’.. I didn’t fully appreciate it when I first arrived on day 1 of my entry into this new land, and being handled what looked like a hot dog - but wasn’t, the sausage diagonally positioned across a plain white piece of bread, then being offered fried onions and BBQ sauce for toppings, and a napkin as the holder. What is this thing… it’s a Snag .. Ah, ok! But what it is also is a vehicle for coming together to celebrate, honour, commemorate. Anything really that brings us together. On Friday we celebrated a big achievement at R.M. Williams and used the most Aussie thing - a snag to do it. And it makes me reflect: What are the US equivalents to this ‘sizzle’? Where there is a united coming together and a common knowing of one thing and what it represents? I’m not sure we’ve got one. Maybe a ‘pot luck’? Where everyone brings one dish and everyone partakes. Maybe..
