Apr 2026It was an unforgettable 3 days at the Ho Chi Minh City International Construction Arbitration Conference. Congratulations to the Society of Construction Law - Viet Nam (SCLVN) and Vietnam International Arbitration Centre for this excellent event. The dynamism, vibrancy and optimism of the construction and legal community in Vietnam is refreshing and inspiring. Indeed, the amazing views of the city we enjoyed during Thursday's dinner cruise underscored how exciting the construction and infrastructure scene in Vietnam is. It was an honour to be on a panel with Nay Yee Lynn and Anil (安纽) CHANGAROTH moderated by Net Le . Thank you for sharing your perspectives and views on the ambitious topic of arbitration in Southeast Asia. Friday’s discussion underscored that despite the popularity of arbitration in recent years, much remains to be done in the years to come to preserve arbitration as a credible and commercially relevant mode of dispute resolution. To all friends, new and old, whom I met, thank you for your time. I hope to see each and every one of you again at HICAC next year.
Apr 2026It was a privilege to speak at the SCCA APAC Legal Congress 2026 on the SAL panel session “Leading the First Response in a Data Breach.” We were delighted to see a full room — with many attendees standing at the back — a strong reflection of how critical data breach preparedness has become for organisations today. I would like to thank my fellow panel speakers Lanx Goh Lyn Lee Michael Lim for their excellent insights and the highly engaging discussion we shared. It was truly an interactive session, enriched by thoughtful perspectives and practical experiences from all of us. The discussion showed that there is both science and art in responding to a data incident. Organisations must be equipped to (among other things): • assess when a data incident becomes a reportable data breach • determine the nature and sensitivity of compromised data, including whether personal data is involved • identify the right internal stakeholders to activate as part of the incident response team • know when to engage forensic specialists and external legal counsel • manage communications and regulatory expectations in a structured and defensible manner Data Protection Authorities increasingly expect organisations to maintain a robust and well-rehearsed data breach response framework. Competency and swiftness in response not only reduces harm to affected individuals, but can also be a significant mitigating factor in regulatory investigations and potential penalties. Having experienced external legal advisors who are familiar with both incident response strategy and regulatory engagement with DPAs, as well as expert forensic specialists who are competent in investigating a data incident, can make a meaningful difference in navigating what is often a highly time-critical and sensitive situation. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic exchange with my fellow speakers and the very engaged audience. Thank you to everyone who chose to attend the session and for the excellent questions raised during the discussion.
