🚀 Bringing AI into the Browser at redBus: WebMCP for the Booking Funnel Over the past few months, The Browser team at redBus has been exploring something that feels like a real shift in how web applications can evolve. We’ve been building with WebMCP (Model Context Protocol in the browser) — applying it to a real, high-scale use case: the redBus booking funnel. 🧠 The Idea: Making the redBus Experience Intent-Driven At redBus, millions of users interact with our platform daily to plan their journeys. Traditionally, the flow is: Enter source & destination Select date Apply filters Choose seats Complete booking ..... But what if users could simply say: “Book a bus from Bangalore to Hyderabad tomorrow evening” And the system understands and executes it? That’s exactly what we are enabling with Web MCP at redBus. 🛠️ What We Built at redBus We created MCP-powered tools mapped directly to each stage of the booking funnel: 🧭 1. Smart Search Initiation Converts natural language into structured actions Auto-fills: Source & destination Travel date Navigates to search results 🔍 2. Intelligent Search Layer Applies filters (price, timing, bus type, operators) Sorts and narrows down results based on user intent Reduces manual exploration effort 🪑 3. Seat Selection Intelligence Understands dynamic seat layouts Selects seats based on preferences (window, sleeper, etc.) ⚙️ 4. Extensible MCP Tooling This isn’t just a feature — it’s a foundation. We are building a system that can extend to: Boarding & dropping points Future payment flow optimizations 🔗 Why This Matters for redBus This shifts the experience from: Clicking through multiple steps to: Expressing intent and letting the system act For a platform like redBus, this means: Faster booking journeys Reduced friction in high-drop-off steps Better alignment with user intent 🧠 The Bigger Shift AI in web development is no longer limited to: Code generation Backend intelligence At redBus, we are pushing it into the browser layer itself. With WebMCP: The browser becomes context-aware The UI becomes actionable via intent The system understands what users want — not just what they click 🙌 Final Thoughts #WebMCP feature is still under development and redBus is already ahead of the curve to be ready with its usage for our users as soon as browsers like #Chrome and others start supporting it. Important links:- https://lnkd.in/gDDW_ipq For performing this development POC we used chrome extension:- https://lnkd.in/gTxhvYih Proud to be part of a team that is rethinking how users interact with web applications at scale. This is just the beginning — and I believe intent-driven web experiences will define the next phase of product evolution. Excited for what’s ahead 🚀 #redBus #WebMCP #AI #WebDevelopment #DeveloperExperience #Innovation #ChromeDevTools #GeminiCLI #makemytrip
