Took a quick walk around my building this morning to get some fresh air after sitting too long at my desk. Across the street, I could hear children on a preschool playground laughing, talking, yelling happily, and simply enjoying being together. There’s something special about the uninhibited joy and free expression that happens when kids are outside playing. It made me stop and think about two things: 1. How important “free play” and moments of unstructured joy are for all humans, not just children. 2. The reminder in Psalms 98 to “shout for joy to the Lord” Sometimes adulthood gets so focused on productivity that we forget the value of joy, wonder, movement, and simply being present. A good reminder for me today: make time to shout, celebrate, and make a joyful noise...and maybe slide once in a while!

I recently shared a message with a deeply religious tone and meaning elsewhere, but the leadership principle reaches beyond that setting. Leaders are built through the ongoing processes of Esteem, Experience, Exceptionality, and Envisioning. - By Esteem, I mean the reputation built along one’s career journey. - Experience is shaped by what leaders face, learn, endure, and overcome. - Exceptionality shows up when leaders do even simple things with extra flair, detail, and precision. - Envisioning is the ability to see purpose, direction, and opportunity in all situations. 💥 But Esteem may be the surprise component. It may seem that a champion-level leader can be built on experience, exceptionality, and envisioning alone. But that view can become dangerous. It can make a person think that how they handle those processes does not matter as much. Then “stepping on people” becomes acceptable. A bad attitude becomes acceptable. Occasional sacrifices of integrity become acceptable. But the championship leader must recognize that reputation matters greatly. Leaders are always building on their reputation, just as much as they are building through the other processes.
