May 2026“And in the morning, I’m making waffles.” We had an ops meeting this morning at the Rain For Rent Monroeville branch, and we came in early to make sure we were ready to feed the troops. We had great conversations about safety, on-road and customer site awareness, and we got to show our gratitude for one of the strongest teams in the company. Thank you to South Jersey Party Rentals Inc. for the waffle makers! And thank you to my kids, who prepped me to cook dozens of waffles in a short amount of time by hosting all their friends for sleepovers over the years!
May 2026Check the Raw Load graphs! Lately I’m seeing more EV charging and industrial DC power companies looking seriously at the AI data center market. At first glance, it makes sense. They already understand high-power DC conversion, modular rectifiers, cooling, protection, grid interfaces — and now the industry is also discussing 800 VDC for AI infrastructure. But I keep coming back to one question: Is this really the same load problem? An EV charger follows a battery charging curve. The battery is, in many ways, a stabilizing load. An AI training cluster behaves very differently. The rectifier is exposed to workload-driven behavior: job ramps, synchronization phases, communication phases, checkpointing, and fast GPU-driven oscillations. AI inference is different again. It follows user traffic, batching behavior, latency limits, and saturation effects. So maybe the real adoption gap is not the voltage level. It is understanding and qualifying against the right dynamic load profile. For me, the technical conclusion is threefold: 1. Rectifiers should follow the power envelope, not every GPU transient. Fast components need to be handled by local DC-link capacitance, rack BBU, or supercapacitor layers. Otherwise the rectifier bank risks control-loop hunting, current-sharing instability, and unnecessary thermal cycling. 2. AI qualification needs waveform-based testing, not only rated-power testing. Relevant tests should include dP/dt, dI/dt, bus-voltage deviation, load rejection, ripple spectrum, capacitor RMS stress, and parallel-module current sharing under synchronized and staggered workload cases. 3. The control variable changes by use case. EV charging is driven by SoC and session coincidence. AI training is driven by scheduler behavior and job phases. AI inference is driven by request rate, batching, and latency saturation. Same voltage range. Different waveform. Different control philosophy. Different rectifier qualification. Curious how others in power electronics and AI infrastructure see this. #AIDataCenters #PowerElectronics #800VDC #DataCenterInfrastructure #EVCharging #EnergyStorage #Rectifiers
