Two guys walk into a bar… No seriously. This weekend my wife and I were out with friends at a new spot in Birmingham when I walked up to close my tab. An older gentleman standing nearby randomly introduced himself to me and started talking about how much he loved the venue and atmosphere there. We started talking about Birmingham, and I mentioned that although I grew up here, I left for college at 18, so I never really learned the nightlife scene or cool spots around the city. He asked where I went to school. “Auburn,” I told him. Then he asked what I studied. “Construction Management.” Immediately he said: “Oh man, you studied construction?! You should work for the Robins Group!” He said the name wrong, but I knew exactly what he meant. So I laughed and said: “Well, you know what’s so crazy? I actually do work for that company. It’s Robins & Morton .” That’s when his face lit up. For the next few minutes, this man spoke incredibly highly of our CEO, Bill Morton, and their family. Not in a polished corporate way. In a genuine human way. Apparently, he has known the Morton family for years and their daughters are good friends. Then he said something that stuck with me: “You’ve got a bright future.” What hit me wasn’t the compliment because, to be honest, he doesn’t know if I do my job great or if I suck 😂. It was the realization that the reputation of a leader can create confidence, trust, and opportunity for people they may never even directly interact with. That’s powerful. Leadership isn’t just strategy. It isn’t just growth. It isn’t just financial success. It’s the way people speak about you when you’re not in the room. And recently, I’ve seen multiple moments where people who have encountered Bill Morton, directly or indirectly, walked away impacted not by position… but by character. That says a lot. As someone who has been connected to this company in some way since I was a teenager, moments like this remind me that culture is not built through mission statements alone. It’s built through people. Through consistency. Through humility. Through how others experience you over time. Sometimes your reputation opens doors for others before they ever say a word. It’s safe to say that Glassdoor is right on target… 99% approve of the CEO ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
