A fantastic couple of days at Accountex London representing Institute of Financial Operations & Leadership (IFOL) and speaking with so many passionate people across Finance Operations, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. What really struck me was the sheer number of organisations telling us the same thing: “We can’t find the right training.” “Our teams are disengaged.” “Current courses are outdated and irrelevant to modern finance operations.” And honestly, I understand why. If you are using existing frameworks of courses to educate, engage, attract-to-retain and up-skill your team and you feel they are out of date, of no realisable benefit to your operation on a day to day basis or the cost outweighs any benefit... then we need to talk. Finance Operations has evolved dramatically. Modern AR and AP teams are no longer just transactional processing functions. They are customer experience teams, data teams, technology teams, commercial teams and cash-flow teams all rolled into one. Yet much of the training available is stuck in the past. That’s why the response to what we are building at IFOL was so positive. People were genuinely excited to see practical, modern, operationally relevant education designed around the real challenges finance teams face today, not theory for the sake of theory, not knowledge to pass an exam with no operational application of that knowledge. Training that helps people improve what they actually do every single day. Training that creates career pathways. Training that helps organisations engage, develop and retain talent. Training that reflects the future of Finance Operations, not the past. The appetite for modern FinOps education is enormous and the conversations over the past two days reinforced just how much change this industry is crying out for. Exciting times ahead. #FinanceOperations #FinOps #OrderToCash #AccountsReceivable #CreditManagement #OrderToCash #AccountsPayable #SharedServices #SSC #LearningAndDevelopment #Leadership #IFOL #Accountex
May 2026Great day at the Institute of Financial Operations & Leadership (IFOL) stand in London today. Brilliant conversations, great energy and plenty of discussion about the future of finance operations, leadership and Order to Cash. But after what feels like a very long wait… I finally managed to get my hands on a pair of the legendary Global Credit Recoveries socks. Safe to say they’re now one of my prized possessions. Thank you Joshua ! Sometimes it’s the small things, the relationships, conversations and little moments at events like these that remind you why this industry is such a great community to be part of. Already looking forward to the next one. #FinanceOperations #OrderToCash #Leadership #CreditManagement #Networking #IFOL #FinanceLeadership #O2C

May 2026For a little while now, my work conversations have increasingly drawn in discussions about non‑financial misconduct. This isn't surprising given the convergence of future legislation and financial services regulation, emphasising it as a core governance issue. It's a topic firmly on the radar of regulators and boards. After these conversations, I've sent links to RPC 's Work Couch mini-series on the topic. The three episodes answer the questions I'm asked and more. I thought I'd share more widely - it might be of interest to you. The mini-series is hosted by our brilliant Ellie Gelder . Across the three episodes, Ellie is joined by experts and specialists. We have RPC's own talented team: Kelly Thomson , Whitney Simpson , Charlotte Reid and Macaela Joyes . In the final episode we're joined by the wonderful Sybille Raphael , joint CEO at the UK's foremost whistleblowing charity Protect , an organisation that leads the way in shaping public policy and championing legal protections for whistleblowers. Together, we explore: 🎙️ Part 1 – What’s changing and why it matters The FCA’s new COCON/FIT guidance on serious bullying and harassment Employment Rights Act 2025: “all reasonable steps”, third‑party harassment, NDAs and social media conduct How to treat NFM as a board‑level risk, not a back‑office problem 🎙️ Part 2 – Running investigations that stand up to scrutiny Scoping and planning, preserving evidence and avoiding “fishing expeditions” Handling anonymous and historic complaints, overlap with regulatory reporting Independence, suspension, confidentiality and managing multi‑track processes 🎙️ Part 3 – Speak up culture and post‑investigation aftercare Why Gen Z and millennials are more likely to blow the whistle on harassment Building trusted “speak up, listen up” frameworks and preventing retaliation Using cases to drive systemic cultural and governance change If you’re a GC, in‑house lawyer, people leader or HR director looking to stress‑test your approach to NFM ahead of the 2026 changes, this series is for you. 🎧 Listen here: Part 1: What’s on the horizon for 2026? with Macaela Joyes and Whitney Simpson https://lnkd.in/eMHnVY74 Part 2: Key watch-outs before and during an investigation, with Kelly Thomson and Charlotte Reid https://lnkd.in/eetbhKvk Part 3: Creating a "Speak Up" culture and post-investigation actions, with Sybille Raphael and Patrick Brodie https://lnkd.in/eBmCfRUX 📩 If you’d like to discuss how this impacts your organisation, do get in touch. #rpc #emplaw #nonfinancialmisconduct

May 2026Last Thursday, amid the craziness of rugby week and HKFC10s Judicial Officer duties, I moderated two panels at the excellent InsuranceAsia News APAC Cyber Risk & Insurance Summit 2026: 1) a morning session on "Insuring the new cyber era: AI risk, coverage gaps, and systemic exposures" with Varun Kakkar , John Lee , and Rory Young , and 2) the last panel of the day on "Lessons learned from high profile disasters gone by", with Tow Lu Lim , Alejandro Vigil-Escalera Garrido , Conor Keating ACII , and Kyle Schwaeble . The conference gathered the best - and busiest - insurance (broking and underwriting), investigations, IRM, IT security and legal minds from across the Asian cyber ecosystem. My own panels covered key emerging and future risks, and lessons learned from working on major incidents. As TL put it "we need more heroes* like us" to help clients prevent and recover from serious cyber incidents. Thanks to my co-panellists for making time for the event and helping ensure the pre-lunch and graveyard shifts kept everyone's interest. Massive thanks to Katie Gordon , Andy Matthews and the conference team for their hard work and patience. *TL may have said "firefighters" but I heard "heroes".
