Last night I attended the launch of Migrating Borders and Citizenship in Law by my friend Devyani Prabhat at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London. It was one of those events that stays with you afterwards. The speakers were thoughtful, engaging, and unafraid to address some of the most difficult questions around immigration, borders, and the lived reality of migrants. What I found especially valuable was that the discussion challenged things I had previously taken for granted. Ideas that once seemed obvious now feel much less obvious. Questions of identity, belonging, and even what kind of state works best seem far more complex when examined through the lens of law and real human experience. In her remarks, Devyani also mentioned that her future research will look at how technology and AI may affect the processes of migration and citizenship. That feels like a particularly important direction. And with her very gifted son, Anango, recently receiving a top Gold Award in the International Olympiad in AI, she may already have an excellent conversation partner at home. Devyani, Professor of Law at the University of Bristol, shows in this book that law does not simply respond to borders and citizenship, but actively shapes them, defining who belongs, who is excluded, and how those boundaries are experienced in everyday life. I left with more questions than answers, which is usually the sign of a worthwhile evening. I would definitely recommend the book. Book link: https://lnkd.in/ekbzZxVW
Apr 2026⚡ The UK Energy Transition Has a Skills Problem — and It’s Becoming the Critical Path ⚡ We talk a lot about infrastructure, capital, and policy in the UK energy sector. But there’s a quieter constraint that’s now impossible to ignore: people. Across networks, generation, flexibility, nuclear, and renewables, skills shortages are no longer a future risk — they’re a present‑day brake on progress. 🔧 Engineering, project delivery, planning, grid, cyber, data — demand is surging, yet the talent pipeline isn’t keeping pace. Many of the most experienced professionals are nearing retirement while the next generation isn’t coming through at the scale or speed required. 📉 This isn’t just a resourcing issue. It’s a delivery issue. Projects slip. Costs rise. Ambitions dilute. And the irony? We have one of the biggest industrial opportunities in decades — but without the workforce to build, operate and maintain it, investment alone won’t get us there. 💡 So this needs to be a call to action: Businesses need to invest earlier and more seriously in early careers, reskilling and retention Policymakers need to treat skills as core infrastructure, not a side programme Education, industry and government must align on what “energy skills” actually mean in 2026 and beyond The energy transition won’t fail because of technology. It will fail if we don’t build the workforce to deliver it. 👉 Those working in or around the sector — what skill gaps are you seeing most acutely right now? #UKEnergy #SkillsGap #EnergyTransition #NetZeroJobs #Infrastructure #Workforce
Apr 2026Yesterday I stepped away from the Slate side of the business to better understand what we offer our corporate groups through our team-building activities. Seeing the genuine joy post-adventure was fantastic ! but even more so, watching how teams supported, encouraged, and helped one another along the way. Those who usually lead in the office swapped roles on the mountain, working together to reach the end. It was real team development in action. If you’re planning a corporate day with real impact , Honister Adventure delivers something you & your team won’t forget. #teambuilding #honisteradventure
