Apr 2026I've been a Neanderthal before (apologies to any out there, for my species-ism). Lemme explain - I’ve heard a lot of frustration. Leaders are saying, "I’m having to consider a major technology overhaul when my budget, time, and staff are all stretched thin—or shrinking. There's uncertainty everywhere. Why should I even try right now?" It's a legitimate question and it's not even really about justifying the investment. We all know when our software or tech isn't meeting expectations. (“It’s fine. It’s fine! -ish.”) It's more about honestly, fairly, assessing whether change gets a seat at the table alongside everything else competing for time, funding, and attention. What's tricky here is our Neanderthal part of our brain works against us. We tend to favor staying with a *known problem* over proposing an uncertain solution—not because it's smarter, but because it *feels* safer. Familiar pain has a strange way of lowering the bar, even if it really doesn't serve or help us. I try to be a rational Homo sapiens and show you these psychological barriers and how awareness of them helps you move past them – and consider the possibility that "doing nothing" just might be the riskiest option on the board. So, yeah... Tell me you've never been there - choosing the devil you know over the one you don't. (I have. I’ve been the Neanderthal.)
