Yesterday, Anthropic announced a new model so powerful they only shared it with ~50 orgs who are responsible for much of the critical info online. The model, which they’re calling Mythos, found 1000s of vulnerabilities across browsers and operating systems just during the last few weeks of testing. I have a lot of thoughts that I’ll try to distill here: 1. I’m thankful a US company created a model of this capability first. 2. Project Glasswing is a great idea, and I’m glad Anthropic is doing it. This slow rollout will help mitigate very real cybersecurity risks. 3. Cyber is not the only risk vector that Mythos will affect. Fraudsters, money launderers, all the bad guys will be itching to get their hands on a tool this powerful. 4. Like Project Glasswing, a council of sorts for the other risk vectors and fincrime in general would be amazing. Get the tools in the hands of the good guys first, and let us get out in front of the bad guys. 5. Update your phones, your computers, and all your applications to the latest updates regularly. The institutions who got access to Mythos like Apple and JPMorgan will be rolling out security updates based on what they find with Mythos. Make sure to keep your tech updated so you’re protected! 6. I thought a model of this capability was farther out. I was wrong. 7. The internet will be safer because of AI across every risk vector, but if bad guys get the most powerful models first there will be bumps in the road.
