Favorite book of the year so far. The people who have the least amount of time to read it are the ones who need it the most. May I slow down enough to see the Ellens and Tonys in my life. https://lnkd.in/gSH6ZTp9
May 2026This week we took our first story from backlog to prod without a developer manually writing a single line of code. Was it a simple story? Yes, we did it with a few of them and they were all very straightforward. Did we still review the code, approve PRs, and approve pipelines? Of course. Humans were involved throughout. But we are now at a point where simple changes can be safely implemented entirely using AI. All in a HIPAA/SOC2 compliant manner at enterprise scale for customer-facing product. The rough process we're using: 1. Product writes user story (also heavily using AI but that's a different process) 2. /story-review command in Cursor generates a summary, questions, and two technical approaches among other things and posts it to ADO 3. /story-instantiation command in Cursor cuts a feature branch, implements the technical approach chosen by developer, and creates a PR 4. /pr-review command in Cursor runs all our LTHS best practices and code patterns in addition to using industry standards to review the PR and provide feedback 5. /release-checklist command in Cursor reviews the PR and creates the steps to deploy to production In between these, there are human reviews of the PR and human approval of pipelines. But it's incredible that we're now systematically enumerating every step of the SDLC and coming up with an AI equivalent to give us the first draft of that step. Now we just need that Cursor/ADO native integration so we can automate more of this :)

Apr 2026Start telling your boss what you know she's going to ask about anyway. It's such low-hanging, overlooked fruit. You join the meeting, you know you're going to get asked about the release timeline on your project, you politely wait your turn, for someone to ask you. Stop doing that. There's a surprisingly prevalent lack of competition to lead. Join the meeting and have your status pulled up, already sharing screen. Or when someone asks, "Where do we want to start?" immediately unmute and say you'd like to discuss your project status. Don't talk off the cuff. Have some remarks prepared. Follow the pyramid principle and tell leadership what they need to know (not how long it took you to figure it out). You already did the work to know what's going on. Just step up and own something. An engineer asked me today how I'm measuring him. My immediate answer: ownership. It's not about the number of stories released. You can write a lot of code but not give a rat's ass about the product, your team, or being helpful to your coworkers. It's about ownership. What's your domain and how do you own the crap out of it? Also, it's a Monday, so here an cute pic of our pup Jack when he was just 12 weeks old to help get you through the day. He now weighs 120 pounds and doesn't fit in the canoe so well.
