May 2026I opened DevTools on LinkedIn this week and saw thousands of errors. That's when things got weird. I was trying to change my banner and ran into a problem. KTLO habits kicked in, so I opened DevTools to look for a failing request. What I found was an endless list of failed requests in the Network tab, piling up every second. So many that I assumed one of my extensions was causing it. To be sure, I disabled them all and restarted the browser. The errors kept coming. So I searched online to see if anyone else had the same problem. That's when I found out what was actually happening. Every time you open LinkedIn, it scans your browser for thousands of Chrome extensions you might have installed. That's where the errors come from. You can see it yourself: open Linkedin in Chrome on desktop, open DevTools, Network tab, reload. LinkedIn says it's to catch scrapers. But when I looked at the list, I saw names I didn't expect. Adobe Acrobat. Grammarly. Calendly. Tools used by hundreds of millions of people. None of which have anything to do with scraping LinkedIn. And it's not just extensions. The same code also fingerprints your device. Screen, fonts, hardware, even battery level. Enough to identify you across the web, even when you're logged out. Yes, I'm posting this on LinkedIn. Which means it just scanned my browser again while I was writing it. Three months after it was first reported, the scanning is still happening. Right now, while you read this. Did you know this was happening?
