Apr 2026A few years ago, a small insight sparked a significant journey—having discovered a magazine article whilst travelling in a Airport lounge about a colocation customer in Africa planning to break ground on a new data center. That moment ignited my curiosity and led to action. Having researched the right stakeholders on LinkedIn, reached out, and initiated what was essentially a cold call into a vision that was still in its infancy, with no infrastructure in place—just ambition to build a hyperscaler. That first conversation opened the door to a transformative journey. From the outset, the Siemon Africa team became embedded, supporting initial design thinking, shaping MMR and cross-connect strategies, and collaborating closely with consultants, system integrators, and MEP teams. We were not merely reacting to requirements; we were actively helping to define them. As the site evolved from bare concrete and empty pathways into a fully operational hyperscale environment, each phase demanded more—more density, more performance, more precision. Because the foundation was laid correctly, scaling became seamless. The customer confidently moved into high-density deployments, standardizing on 400G and preparing for 800G as a natural progression rather than a challenge. Over time, our relationship strengthened. Trust was built not on a single milestone but across every phase of delivery. The customer fully embraced Siemon, leveraging our data center design services, specialist training on 400G/800G solutions, and continuous site walks to ensure every deployment was executed seamlessly and to the highest standard. Today, we stand alongside customers across Africa, continuously exploring how AI can be integrated into every data center and how the right infrastructure can enable that future.
