What an inspirational evening at the Women in Rail Awards . So many amazing men and women in one room who have and continue to challenge boundaries to ensure the railway is inclusive to all. It was an honour to collect the award for the Best Training and Development programme for ‘Show you care’, a company wide inclusion programme delivered to colleagues across the business including our frontline teams. The Southeastern trax choir also got the evening off to a brilliant start 🎵 Congratulations to all the nominees, highly commended and winners ⭐️
May 2026There are few organisations that have a greater purpose than Veterans Aid and fewer still with a CEO who has the passion of my friend Hugh Milroy OBE PhD . Put simply, we save lives. We help Veterans at their hour of greatest need. We lift Veterans who have been left behind by other Service charities and, shockingly, by the State they served. Our model of 'Welfare to Wellbeing' is unique. Our impact is clear, validated and demonstrable. I am humbled to be a Trustee of this amazing organisation. May 2026CX Shining Star Award 2026! ⭐️ It was an honour to be recognised at the Avanti West Coast Customer Experience Conference 2026 not to mention that it completely took me by surprise ! Thank you to Zina , who read a lovely statement about the key role I played in recent QTM negotiations with the Department for Transport and my consistent management of National Rail Contract requirements. Thank you to the whole Customer Experience directorate because, as I always say, Service Quality is a team sport.

Apr 2026Destination GBR. Are we there yet? In June 2025 we created South Eastern Railway, the first in a new era of integrated railways under public ownership. So what have we achieved in the first 301 days? Actually, quite a lot. We have set out our aims to deliver a safer, better railway at a lower subsidy. We have set our ambitions for ‘better’ as 90:90:2 i.e. 90% customer satisfaction 90% T-3 punctuality 2% cancellations We are doing this to be a purposeful business enabling economic growth, housing and social mobility. So what have we achieved so far? Safer Reduced RIDDOR accidents by 13% ✅ Reduced significant operational safety incidents by 57%✅ Better Improved customer satisfaction from 85 to 87✅ Topped ORR tables for satisfaction with assisted travel✅ Improved punctuality from 84.5 to 85.7% T-3 (equivalent to over 200,000 more station stops)✅ Improved cancellations by 12.5% to 2.1% (equivalent to 1500 fewer cancelled trains)✅ Delivered zero freight cancellations for 3 periods ✅ Lower Subsidy Increased revenue by 7% to £915.7m ✅ Increased ridership by 3.9%to 143.4m ✅ Identified integration opportunities worth £57m ✅ Reduced subsidy by £47.8m to £366.7m ✅ So how have we done this? Some of the things we have done include: -Training 1500 customer facing staff to ‘Dare to Care’ -Upgrading our stations through deep cleaning, painting and refurbishment -Reduced infrastructure maintenance backlog to under 4% -Working with BTP to use drones to reduce trespass -Fitted AI enabled CCTV and thermal imaging cameras to 32 passenger trains to monitor assets Most pleasingly our people have really embraced the opportunity. In a recent colleague survey 84% said that they understood the benefits of integration and 66% said they knew how it affected their role. That’s a brilliant foundation to build on. So what’s next? Our plans include: -More services in May and December to drive growth -Summer plan to boost coastal traffic -New Autumn Plan 🍂 building on the success of 2025 - New ticket machines for every station -More closures to allow more cost effective infrastructure renewals Integrated railways are not a panacea but they do give us ‘another gear’ to move towards our ambitions. Working in an integrated railway is also more enjoyable as we see new relationships formed and a concerted effort to deliver for customers and communities. Looking forward, Rail Reform offers the opportunity to build a new eco system in our industry and to tackle issues systemically, with partners, in a manner which improves our railway fundamentally and irreversibly. We can trace the roots of the South Eastern Railway back to 1836 and are certain that the next chapter we write in our history will be a good one, delivered by great people, united in serving our customers and our communities. I feel privileged to work with such great people. We appreciate our stakeholders, partners and suppliers who support and challenge us to make our railway the best it can be.

Apr 2026Today I received some fantastic news — CultuRail has been nominated for Best Networking Group – Southeastern. This recognition reflects something truly special. CultuRail has grown into a thriving, inclusive colleague network doubling its membership, amplifying underrepresented voices, and strengthening engagement not just across Southeastern, but across the wider rail industry. Over the past year alone, the group has delivered more than 15 events across the Southeast, championing diversity, celebrating culture, and creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued. It’s a real honour to serve as Vice Chair alongside our dedicated and passionate Chair Rabin Kandel . I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together so far, and even more excited about what lies ahead. A huge thank you to our Executive Sponsor Scott Brightwell , and the Southeastern Inclusion & Wellbeing team for their continued support in making this possible. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at the iconic Roundhouse in Camden. It will be a special evening, with our very own Southeastern integrated choir, Trax, also taking to the stage. Whatever the outcome, this nomination is already a huge achievement — and a testament to every colleague who has contributed, supported, and believed in what CultuRail stands for. Fingers crossed for May 🤞
