May 2026Still building. A few days ago I wrote about the book — the pen, the notebook, the shop owner doing mental math at the end of a long day. I've been quiet since then. Not because nothing is happening. Because a lot is. This is the first look at what Duka OS actually feels like to use. Still early. Still finding the edges. But the direction is clear — and it works. More soon. #DukaOS #NorahLabs #BuildInPublic #MadeInAfrica #Kenya
May 2026𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲. Every neighborhood I've lived in, every estate I've visited — the shops and mini-marts all have the same thing on the counter. A pen. And a book. Sales recorded by hand. Stock tracked from memory. At the end of the day, the owner does mental math on everything that came in and went out. Then they close the book and hope they didn't forget anything. I've sat on the other side of that counter. Working as the sole developer at a company, I got to see how the big players operate — QuickBooks, SAP Business One, iVend POS, full data pipelines. Systems that give you everything you need to run a business: dashboards, inventory alerts, customer data, revenue analytics. All visualized. All in real time. Those systems cost money. Real money. Money that the mama mboga outside your estate doesn't have. Money that the mini-supermarket at the corner of your street can't justify. And so they keep the pen. They keep the book. I have a friend who runs a restaurant. Six months in, business is genuinely doing well. But every evening, she sits down with her book and reconstructs the day — what sold, what's running low, what she made. She's running a successful business and still spending her end-of-day doing manual reconciliation when she should be resting. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝗸𝗮-𝗢𝗦 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺. 𝗔 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: what if the corner duka could run just as smoothly as the big companies? What if the shop owner could open a dashboard and see their business — not read it from a book? Before I write a single line of backend code, before I think about database schemas or architecture — I jumped onto Figma. A few colors. Some wireframes. A couple of screens. Just to see how it feels. This is what I have so far. 🛠 Dashboard · Inventory · POS — built for the way dukas actually work, including M-Pesa. Still early. Still finding the right look and feel. But the direction is clear. If you know someone who runs a small shop, a restaurant, or a mini-market and is still on pen and paper — this one's for them. #DukaOS #CreativeBuilder #NorahLabs #MadeInAfrica #BuildInPublic #Kenya #SMEs
May 2026Mother’s Day was especially sweet yesterday—a moment to reminisce and to look ahead to the milestones still unfolding. While going through old photos, my mom and I found this fifteen‑year‑old snapshot of my not‑so‑small‑anymore munchkin staring up at our local first responders in absolute awe. He captured something I feel every single day: the gratitude that comes with getting to work with EMS agencies and Mobile Integrated Health teams. Thank you, first responders, for everything you do and everything you carry for the communities you serve 🫶 Alachua County Fire Rescue Mobile Integrated Healthcare William Nice Logan Glanzer Jodie Lindsey-Benware Phoenix Marsiglio
