When we decided to go all-in on AI agents for procurement at Spendflo , I could have stood up and said to the team : "this is the direction, trust me." But I've seen that playbook. You get compliance, not conviction. And a team that's just following orders can't move at the speed you need. So, we ran something internally called Project Ironclad — a joint exercise where every leader had to get their hands dirty. Build the prototypes. Test the use cases in their own function. Feel the gap between where we were and where this could go. We called it Ironclad because the goal was simple: by the end of it, there should be no doubt. And there wasn't. At the end of it, nobody was asking "is this the right call?" They were saying: "this is just the obvious next step." That's the only reaction that matters. And you can't manufacture it. You have to let people arrive there themselves. Conviction handed down from the top is fragile but conviction you built yourself compounds. If you're navigating a major shift right now, don't sell it top-down. Give your leaders the problem and let them find the answer.
