May 2026We are living through a recalibration of patience. ChatGPT summarizes a 40-page report in seconds. Gemini connects your docs, your calendar, your email. Claude reasons through a complex problem before you've finished your coffee. The bar for "intuitive" has been raised permanently, and every tool we touch is now measured against it. For those of us in CPG insights, the expectation has followed us to work. Clients who spent a weekend prompting AI tools are now sitting across from panel data platforms, POS dashboards, and survey portals asking a reasonable question: why isn't this easier? It's a fair question. And the honest answer is: it will be. The data providers are building. Integration is coming. The one-stop shop is closer than it's ever been. But here's what concerns me about the waiting room we're all sitting in. The "patience gap" is the distance between what AI has trained us to expect and what our tools currently deliver. And it is quietly eroding appreciation for the thing that has driven value in this industry for decades: the trained analytical mind that pulls a coherent story out of messy, disparate data. That skill was never about the tools. It was built against them. I come from a musical background that has always shaped the way I think about my work in Consumer Insights. More on that in the months ahead. But the analogy that keeps coming to mind is this: Suno can now generate a full, listenable song from a single text prompt. The output is genuinely impressive. And yet, when the music needs to mean something, you call the producer. The one with the ear, the taste, the thousand invisible decisions that no prompt has learned to make. The analysts who were trained in the hard version of this work, before the integrations, before the intuitive UX, before the AI layer, will be the most valuable people in the room when the workflow finally becomes effortless. The tools will get easier. The judgment doesn't come with the software.
