Primary products / business lines
LinkedIn company profileHello, we’re Starling. Banking was broken – so we decided to fix it. The vision? Fast technology, fair service and honest values. All at the tap of a phone, all the time. We built Britain’s first digital bank. One hard-won banking licence later, we set about giving people a new way to spend, save and manage their money (and take better care of the planet, too). We’re changing banking for good.

Apr 2026When we announced Starling Assistant last month, I deliberately held off writing about it. I wanted to see how customers would actually use it. I also wanted to read what the press and the public had to say. Since then, the reception has been very positive. A theme I keep seeing is that Starling continues to redefine how AI should be used in retail banking. I am incredibly proud of this claim which has been earned through years of shipping real AI-backed features, from Cheque Deposit back in 2020 through to Spending Intelligence, the AI-powered Help Hub, and Scam Intelligence more recently. Starling Assistant is the next step in that journey. What's been most interesting is watching the tool land where intended and lower the bar to discovering and using features across our mobile app. The agent can actually do things across most of the app on your behalf, or guide you straight to the right screen when you'd rather do it yourself. It meets customers where they are and helps them navigate what can feel like an increasingly rich product. Expert users don't use it as much, as they already know their way around the app - and that’s great! But for the many customers who don’t spend their time on their banking apps, having a capable agent that understands their intent and acts on it has the potential to make banking simpler and more accessible. And that's the philosophy behind every feature we build at Starling. We’ll be expanding the assistant’s capabilities to provide an even better experience for our customers - one that we hope will help all our customers be good with money. The roadmap is exciting, and if the first few weeks are anything to go by, Starling Assistant is going to become the way a lot of people bank with us in future.
Apr 2026After a little more than 2 years and upon the completion of a major risk management uplift programme, I have decided to leave Starling and focus on more flexible non-executive and advisory roles. The last two years have been very rewarding but also intense. I leave with a lot of great memories and wish the Starling team the very best. Starling is a young business with many exciting opportunities and I am confident that it will continue to grow and succeed.
