I love AI 😅 Haha, not sure why that feels like a controversial thing to say given my job, but it kind of does. I got some great news this morning: I passed the first exam in the process of converting my Australian legal qualification so I can be called to the bar here in Canada!! One down, four to go. First up was Constitutional Law (eat the frog, as they say!). I am so excited, relieved and honestly, proud of myself. Studying while working full time has been a lot. Very long days. So much prolonged focus. Serious discipline (missing out on a lot of social activities). I was studying for this exam while helping the team roll out Legora at Stewart McKelvey . And speaking of Legora, it helped my study process SO much. I know there is concern that AI is going to lead to “brain rot,” but I honestly think it can make us smarter when used well. For me, Legora basically became a personal tutor. I used it to: • Mark my practice exams and tell me where I could improve • Point me back to the exact sections of my notes where I could find the relevant information • Help me get much more familiar with my materials • Hone my arguments and structure my answers • Create true or false quizzes when I was too tired to write another full hypothetical • Work through cases and concepts I did not fully understand I still did the reading. I still wrote the practice exams. I still had to put in the time -but the immediate feedback made my studying so much more effective and engaging. I genuinely feel like I learned about the Canadian Constitution, and that it is actually sticking with me. All this to say: yay, I passed!! 🎉 And also, when used well, I really do think AI can make us smarter. Anyways, enough from me. I am procrastinating studying for exam # 3: Administrative Law on June 4 (just another wild Saturday night!). Fingers crossed.
May 2026Welcome to Canada Legora ❄️ Very cool (pardon the pun) to be one of the first law firms to embrace your amazing technology and it will be great to have your (fur-lined) boots on the ground here! Paul Saunders , our Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer said it best: “Legora’s decision to open a Toronto office is a clear signal that it is investing meaningfully in Canada as a long-term, strategic market. At Stewart McKelvey, we’ve taken an AI-forward approach by adopting Legora firmwide, and we’re already seeing strong early results across document reviewing and drafting. Having a local presence will accelerate collaboration and ensure the platform continues to evolve in line with the needs of Canadian legal teams. It also reinforces confidence that Legora is committed to supporting firms here with the same depth and ambition we’re seeing globally.” https://lnkd.in/eBG2PEgp
