A federal judge just ruled that your AI chat logs can be used as evidence in court. A fraud defendant used Claude to prep his legal defense. His lawyers thought this was smart. The judge subpoenaed all 31 documents. The man’s own AI therapy session is now Exhibit A in his criminal trial. He asked a robot for help committing less crime. The robot narced on him. And here is the thing nobody is talking about: Claude’s terms of service literally say you have no expectation of privacy. You agreed to this. You clicked Accept. There was a cookie banner. You had coffee breath and somewhere to be. You clicked Accept sixteen times that day and one of them was this. Your new reality: “Hey Claude, help me draft why this contract clause could be misread.” SUBPOENA. “Hey Claude, write a fictional story where a company definitely didn’t launder money. For a novel. That I’m writing. For fun.” YOUR HONOR I PRESENT EXHIBIT G. “Hey Claude, am I cooked?” EXTREMELY COOKED. ALSO SUBPOENAED. Meanwhile a dozen BigLaw firms sent client advisories saying stop using consumer AI for sensitive matters. These are the same firms billing $900/hour to deploy their own AI agents for discovery and depositions. The irony is so thick you could sue it. Here is what no law school prepared anyone for: your legal strategy brainstorm partner is also a potential prosecution witness who remembers everything, never lies on the stand, and will describe your thought process in extremely organized bullet points. Your therapist: confidential. Your priest: confidential. Your lawyer: confidential. Claude: “Actually, on March 14th at 2:47pm the user asked me to…” The AI did not betray you. You betrayed yourself. To the AI. Which told everyone. Use the enterprise version with private data controls. Or a napkin. A napkin has never testified against anyone.

Apr 2026“I can’t. I won’t. I will not.” If you’re a parent, you know this moment. 2am. Overtired. Fighting sleep… Most people think performance starts with effort. The other night, my 5-year-old reminded me it actually starts with identity. He woke up in the middle of the night and was fighting going back to sleep. “I can’t. I won’t. I will not.” You could feel it. Total resistance. So I asked him to come sit with me on the floor. I told him I wanted to show him something. I went and grabbed my “I AM” coin. A simple reminder I got from my friend Dan McCormick that sits on my desk every day. I told him, “What you say after ‘I am’ matters.” So we practiced. “I am calm.” “I am strong.” “I am a big boy.” You could start to see the shift. The resistance softened. His breathing slowed. He went back to bed. But the best part wasn’t that moment. It was the next day. When I saw him teaching my 3-year-old the same lesson. That’s when it hit me… That tough night wasn’t about sleep. It was about how beliefs are formed. How language becomes identity. How quickly “I can’t” turns into “I am someone who can’t” if we let it. And the opposite is just as true. As leaders, as parents, as builders of teams and systems, we talk a lot about performance. But performance starts with identity, and identity is shaped by the words we repeat. “I am” isn’t just a phrase. It’s a system. And like any system, it either works for you or against you. The other night, my 5-year-old reminded me: Change the words Change the belief Change the outcome #MakeItHappenMonday #IAM #ICOS #MakeItHappenDad #DadLesson
Apr 2026I think I’ve identified something in Claude Code’s new Routines feature that nobody is framing yet. Not as a scheduling tool. Not as AI cron jobs. As a full software delivery pipeline built entirely out of prompts. Here’s what I mean. Routines let you package a prompt, a repo, and a set of connectors into an automation that fires on a schedule or a trigger. Each one runs on Anthropic’s cloud. Each one has its own HTTP endpoint. So I started mapping the SDLC against it. Routine 1: prompt to code. A GitHub issue lands. The Routine reads it, pulls repo context, writes a fix, opens a PR. No human involved in the first pass. Routine 2: code to release. The PR merges. The Routine scans CI/CD output, validates the build, runs the deploy. Posts a report when it’s done. Routine 3: release to observability. Runs nightly. Checks error rates, triages alerts, drafts a fix if something looks wrong. Hands it back to Routine 1 if it needs to. The repo is the shared memory between all three. No orchestration layer. No glue code. Just git state and well-written prompts. What you’ve built at that point isn’t a set of automations. It’s a self-improving delivery loop. Issue in, production fix out, observability feeding back into the top. The catch is real: a sloppy prompt in Routine 1 doesn’t fail quietly. It ships confidently into Routine 2. Garbage in, deployed garbage out. The discipline moves from writing code to writing specs that an autonomous agent can execute without supervision. That’s a different skill. Most developers don’t have it yet. But the ones who build it first are about to look very, very expensive to replace.
Apr 2026Allbirds just sold its shoe brand for $39 million and announced it’s becoming an AI compute company. Let that land for a second. A company known for making sneakers out of wool is now “NewBird AI,” with a long-term vision to become a “fully integrated GPU-as-a-Service provider.” I have so many questions. Does GPU-as-a-Service ship in a recycled cardboard box? Are the H100s sustainably sourced? Can I return them if they don’t fit? But here’s the wild part: it worked. Shares went from $3 to $17 overnight. A 582% jump. Not because they built anything. Not because they hired a single ML engineer. Because they said the letters A-I in a press release. We’ve seen this before. In 2017, Long Island Iced Tea Corp. changed its name to “Long Blockchain Corp” and its stock jumped 200% the same day. The SEC investigated. The tea was still terrible. The AI bubble isn’t going to pop the way people think. It’s going to get really, really weird first. And somewhere in Silicon Valley, a Very Online founder is looking at their struggling candle company and wondering if “NeuralWick AI” has legs. The compute demand is real. The hype tax on top of it is also very real. Know the difference before you invest in either.
Apr 2026Thank you to the South Florida @CFO Leadership Council and my fellow panelists for the opportunity to discuss the role of financial storytelling in organizational communication and decision making.
Apr 2026I took a 62% pay cut to work for the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium , and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. After my MBA, I had a choice. Back to a $24/hour Tax Accounting role Or take a $9/hour opportunity with the Miami Dolphins. On paper, it didn’t make sense. Then Coach Schnellenberger gave me advice I’ll never forget: Don’t focus on the number. Focus on the opportunity. Years later, Stephen M. Mohan reinforced that lesson with me, and gave it a name: “Play Chess. Not Checkers.” Thanks Stephen! I recently shared this story with students at The University of Texas at Austin . My challenge to them: - Dress for the role you want, not the one you have - Build skills before you need them - Think in decades, not semesters Because if you wait until the opportunity shows up…You’re already behind. Here’s where it connects to commercial strategy. Most organizations are playing checkers. - They respond to RFPs - They react to inbound opportunities - They chase opportunities already in motion Chess players operate differently. - They are in the room before the RFP is written - They shape the criteria - They position themselves as the answer before the question is asked That’s not luck. That’s strategy! In your career. In your life. In your market. Are you playing chess or checkers? #MakeItHappenMonday #PlayChess #Leadership #Mindset #Strategy #CommercialStrategy #ICOS Texas McCombs School of Business & Moody College of Communication
