Prepare vs. Repair: machinery being serviced and maintained in advance of harsh conditions ($) vs system capability exceeded by harsh conditions resulting in potential catastrophic failure ($$$$$$$). Deferred maintenance costs much more than it saves.

A big thank you to Christian Schulke of Scottish Rite for Children for putting together a truly informative AMFP North Texas - Association of Medical Facility Professionals meeting. I’d also like to thank the speakers, Abby Lipperman, P.E. LEED AP and Todd Price for highlighting the importance of auxiliary power for mission-critical operations such as healthcare and data centers. And thank you to Children's Health in Plano for hosting this event to help inform, and educate the AEC industry and those providing MEP services for critical facilities. My biggest takeaway was simple: power outages are becoming more frequent and lasting longer. 83% of major U.S. power outages are weather-related — a ~20% increase in recent years and nearly 3x what we saw a decade ago. Much of the U.S. grid infrastructure is over 50 years old, making it even more critical to reduce strain through efficient MEP systems and invest in reliable backup power solutions. As demand grows and conditions become more unpredictable, resilience is no longer optional, it’s essential. #MEP #MissionCritical #DataCenters #HealthcareFacilities #AECIndustry #FacilityManagement #Sustainability #AMFP #ChildrensHealth #ScottishScottishScottish Rite
