“We’re moving into this sort of G4 world.” 🌍 This sentence by Manuel Muñiz at the European Resilience Summit in Vienna captured perhaps more clearly than anything else the magnitude of the transformation we are living through. A world shaped by 4️⃣ dominant economic and geopolitical poles: the US, China, India and Europe. While fragmentation, technological dependencies and post-hegemonic realities redefine international order in real time. ⏰ 💣🧯 Muñiz described a structural shift that is no longer theoretical: the rise of multi-polarity, the weakening of the rules-based order, and the US increasingly moving away from its historic hegemonic posture. And with that, Europe faces a defining question: Can Europe move from being dependent and reactive towards becoming resilient, sovereign and strategically capable❓ In my opinion, one of the sharpest interventions came from Hans de Vries of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) , who outlined the acceleration of cyber vulnerability exploitation with alarming clarity: 🔹 “In 2015, exploiting vulnerabilities took about 2.4 years. In 2026, it’s ten hours.” 🔹 “It’s not anymore Patch Tuesday. It is patch hour, every day, 24/7.” The message was unmistakable: Europe’s challenge is no longer only military or economic. It is digital, infrastructural and systemic. Vulnerabilities in software, supply chains and technological dependencies have become geopolitical exposure. What made this summit exceptional, however, was not only the content on stage, but the quality of the conversations around it. It began in a remarkable setting inside the Austrian Parliament, opening the summit with thoughtful insights into democratic resilience and institutional responsibility. Deep gratitude to Clemens Möslinger and Peter Reichstädter for enabling this extraordinary start. ✨ And equally important were the conversations that finally received the depth, honesty and intellectual openness they deserve: Dr Simona Milio , thank you for being the best academic dinner-table neighbour one could ask for👩🏻🎓. Thank you Emiel Brok from SUSE , not only for introducing me to what is quite possibly the most magnificent green chameleon on this planet. 😉 And thank you for the many wonderful conversations and perspectives behind the scenes: Alexander Schellong , Paul Hicks, CIA, CMIIA, QIAL , Sander Hulsman , Sofie Schönborn , Ron de Jonge , Götz T. Wiese , Marc Plewnia , Ulf Glöckner , Jean-Luc Gibernon , Dr. Philipp S. Mueller , Paul H. , Manuel Höferlin , Andreas Weiss , Dr. Ganen Sethupathy , Wolfram Weckwerth , René Prinz … Vienna set the tone. For me, Berlin will test the next chapter. 🚀
