As UAVs become more accessible and scalable, the focus must shift toward smarter integration, faster decision-making, and sustainable response models. It was great to participate in the #TideSprint44 , focused on digital transformation and AI, hosted in the incredible city of Istanbul. It is encouraging to see NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) pushing an urgently needed transformation agenda across #NATO . The momentum is clearly building, and at Terma Group we are proud to contribute to that journey, most recently demonstrated by some of my incredibly talented colleagues securing a 🥈 at the #NATOTIDEHackathon2026 in Reykjavik. However, the current focus on AI capability development is still too singularly focused on transforming enterprise architecture and leveraging AI agents to gain decision superiority. I understand the potential, but #Ukraine is demonstrating to the alliance every single day that AI models for object detection, classification, and identification directly on the sensor/edge, whether that is a camera on a drone, a radar, acoustics sensor, or something else entirely, are equally critical. This matters because these models are purpose-built and are never better than the data they are trained on. That fundamentally challenges the normal linear capability development process, as well as the alliance’s reluctance to work systematically and at scale with generating training datasets as part of normal operational procedures. Once again, the #Ukrainians are forcing the alliance to open its eyes and transform. Their latest contribution for those willing to listen and learn is the #CombatAILab #AvengerLab , a platform for training AI models for unmanned systems using real combat data. That is the capability we need to focus on building: the ability to collect training data at scale, continuously train AI models, and rapidly redeploy them. At #Terma we are listening and learning, which is why we are able to deliver drone detection and classification capabilities that make a real operational difference, whether for C-UAS solutions, naval radars, or other sensor applications. As threats become more complex, securing critical infrastructure calls for solutions that work together in practice. QGRID is a good example of how quantum technologies can be developed through close cooperation between industry, researchers, and public partners.
