Most brands are looking in the wrong subreddits and that’s why their Reddit strategy never works. Discovery is the real advantage. Aside from automated tools, taking the time to manualy research your brand, relevant topics, conversations, and keywords gives you a bigger advantage. Tools help you find signals and can be a time saver, but the best insights come from actually reading threads, patterns, and context. That’s where most brands fall short IMO. In my experience, the best insights on Reddit are still found manually. Take the time to research subreddits and keywords relevant to your brand. Apr 2026Reddit doesn’t hate brands. It hates obvious branding. This is one of the biggest misconceptions I see. Brands assume they need to “hide” on Reddit, but that’s not really the issue. The issue is HOW they show up. Early on, founder-led or personal accounts almost always perform better. Why? Because they feel human. • More conversational • More transparent • More aligned with how Reddit actually communicates That said, brand accounts can work, but only if they behave like real participants, not marketers. Where most brands go wrong: • Sales-heavy tone • Dropping links with no context • Talking at the community instead of with it What I’ve seen work best is a hybrid model: • Founder/personal accounts = engagement (answering questions, joining discussions, building trust) • Brand accounts = authority + consistency (structured posts, official presence, long-term credibility) This gives you the best of both worlds, trust and scalability. At the end of the day, Reddit isn’t anti-brand. It’s anti-inauthentic behavior. People trust people. Not logos.
