I am excited to be heading to Geneva for the World Health Assembly. If you are in the area, please join me and my Carter Center colleagues on May 19 for a free public screening of The President and the Dragon, a powerful documentary that tells the remarkable story of the global effort to eradicate Guinea worm disease—one of the great public health successes of our time. When the Carter Center and its partners launched the effort in 1986, there were 3.5 million cases annually. Last year, there were only 10. I will be moderating a discussion with our global health experts after the film to discuss the challenges ahead as we strive to make Guinea worm only the second disease (after smallpox) to be eradicated. Register at the link below to see the details. Hope to see you on Tuesday! 📍 Geneva | May 19, 6:00–9:00 PM 🎬 The President and the Dragon 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/epyvtzic
May 2026Last week, I had the honor of joining my friend David Becker for the first conversation in The Center for Election Innovation & Research “Trust Elections” webinar series. I appreciated the chance to share insights from The Carter Center’s global work to protect democratic institutions and to reflect on what gives me hope about U.S. democracy today. Democracy is resilient, but it isn’t self-sustaining. It requires participation and people willing to engage: Local election officials administering elections across more than 9,000 jurisdictions. Volunteer election observers — including those trained by The Carter Center — watching key stages of the election process. And voters who show up and participate in one of the most fundamental acts of democracy. Thank you again to CEIR and David for advancing these important conversations — and for the work you do every day to strengthen trust in elections.
