About a third of our users at ThoughtSpot have been typing full sentences into a search bar built for keywords. "What were Q2 sales by region" into a field that expects you to type "Q2 sales dashboard" and pick from a dropdown. To be fair, we are into agentic analytics. Initially, we thought it was a labelling problem. It wasn't, really. They've just been trained by everything else to expect natural language to work in any text box. Post-LLM and ChatGPT , every search bar is a chatbot in the user's head whether you designed it that way or not. This came up while I was looking at a more mundane problem: users averaging 8-10 navigation actions per session, for stuff they'd already seen. Standard discoverability tax that compounds as the product surface grows. Users aren't thinking in modes like "Find me a dashboard" and "ask a question about my data.” It is the same action in their heads. We just happened to have two separate interfaces for it. So we built a command palette. Cmd+K, one surface. Navigate, search, create, or fire a query at Spotter (our AI). Enter for structured search, Cmd+Enter for AI. System figures out routing, you just type. Command palettes aren't new. Raycast , Visual Studio Code , half of dev-tooling lives by them. What's interesting is building one on top of a traditional search engine, navigation AND a natural language AI. You end up doing intent disambiguation at the UX layer, not just at the model layer. That's a fun problem, and one I think more products are going to run into as they integrate AI alongside existing search.
May 2026What if your data model could annotate itself? At ThoughtSpot we are trying to solve one of the biggest gaps in how we build Semantic Data Models today which is COVERAGE. Teams annotate the columns they think are important but a lot of structural knowledge never makes it into the semantic layer. Hierarchies within dimensions. Derivation relationships between metrics. Business rules that live in a spreadsheet somewhere. Which column influences which ? This POC explores what it looks like to close the above mentioned gaps automatically. The Semantic Compiler (Yes this is what I have named it !!) Connects to your warehouse, reads your query history, profiles your columns, and uses an LLM to discover the structural relationships that exist in the data but are missing from the model. It then proposes those as enrichments AI Context, Model Instructions, Synonyms, Hierarchy hints, Derivation annotations, for a human to review and apply. Still early, still a POC , but the signal on relationship discovery quality is strong enough to share. Would love feedback. #SemanticLayer #KnowledgeGraph #Metadata #DataModeling #ThoughtSpot

Apr 2026I recently caught up with Kevin Coyle to talk about his "Analytics Declaration of Independence". Thanks for the time Kevin Coyle . The tech to deliver Agentic Intelligence—or "Proactive RAG" as Kevin calls it—is here. And the real challenge now is crossing the UX chasm. We are seeing a fundamental shift in the user's role: From Operators: Manual digging and dashboard-diving. To Delegators: Overseeing intelligence that lives directly in the flow of work. This has always been the mission at ThoughtSpot .. Data to Decisions, powered by Agents; right inside your tools and workflows .. and we continue to push toward a future of proactive & personalised user experiences (.. stay tuned for more on this front). As Kevin eloquently puts it: "The best interface is the one that dissolves into the work itself." Check out the comments below for his full manifesto 👇 #Data #AI #ThoughtSpot #Analytics #UserExperience
Apr 2026Most AI agents fail for one simple reason: they don’t understand your business. In HR, that shows up fast—conflicting metrics, unclear definitions, and zero trust in the data behind decisions. Spotter Semantics changes that by grounding every insight in a single, governed source of truth—so leaders and teams can actually trust what they’re seeing. If we want AI to scale in HR, it’s not about more tools. It’s about getting the foundation right. By integrating directly with Snowflake , Databricks , and dbt Labs , we’re empowering every user to ask complex questions and get verified answers. The agentic era is here. Is your data ready? Apr 2026The semantic layer has always been the unglamorous but load-bearing wall of analytics infrastructure. What's changing now is who, or what, needs to read it. Building it for agents requires rearchitecting from first principles. ThoughtSpot has done just that.
Apr 2026Today marks my 5th (!) anniversary at ThoughtSpot and it’s flown by. 💜 I started as an SDR, slightly overwhelmed by the number of acronyms and remember prospects thinking I was calling from ThoughtWorks 🥴 I was genuinely surprised more people hadn’t heard of us. Even then, I saw how powerful the tech was, and how strongly everyone believed in what we were building. My SDR years were some of the most fun: learning the craft of pipeline generation, booking meetings that went on to become flagship customers across EMEA and pushing myself to improve every day. I was fortunate to win PC and be the top-performing SDR globally for FY22, FY23, and FY24. ☀️ I always had my sights set on becoming an AE and the past 2 years in the Commercial team have been the most rewarding and formative of my career so far. I’ve had the chance to work with an incredible set of customers and achieve things I’m really proud of; including (hopefully not jinxing it) 300%+ quota attainment this quarter and already hitting my annual number. ⚡ Of course, none of this happens in isolation; results are the direct reflection of the people around me: from our brilliant SEs to Product, Marketing, SDRs, our SLT, and beyond. One of the things I appreciate most is how many people play a part, and you feel that every day in how supported you are at every step. 👏 Not to mention that having an amazing product always helps. 💫 We are in our prime with a clear ICP alignment, strong momentum and continuously pushing the boundaries of what BI can be by embedding AI into every product experience and workflow. We’re growing quickly across EMEA and it’s a pretty special group of people to be part of. If you want to work with some of the sharpest, most collaborative teammates, it’s a great time to take a look at our open roles. ⬇️ And yes, in true Brit fashion, we will be on a rooftop bar in April with a grey sky as the backdrop . ☁️
