I delivered a 45-minute workshop today on habits for those working at their desks in North America. Thank you Lauren Rooney, HRIP at VelocityEHS for inviting me as a speaker, facilitator and coach, I look forward to helping you all soon again. It was a simple topic on the surface but it sparked some real conversations. One thing stood out very quickly, most people don’t struggle because they don’t know what to do. They struggle because their current habits are working, just not in the way they want. And this could be said for everyone. Every habit is "solving" something: Reducing stress Creating comfort Avoiding pressure And until that’s understood, and there are more examples and slants on this, change is short-lived. So instead of overcomplicating it, we focused on three simple ideas: → Start smaller than you think → Link new habits to existing routines → Focus on how the habit makes you feel No big dramas really, just one practical shift in our minds. Because in reality, consistency doesn’t come from motivation, it comes from making things simple enough to repeat. On a personal note, sessions like this remind me how powerful it is when people pause and reflect, even briefly on how they’re being and showing up day to day. That’s where change starts. If there’s one habit you’ve been meaning to improve, don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start small, Start today and if this resonates with you, you know how to find me!
Apr 2026I got into the field of ergonomics after hearing a retired worker share how years in the field left him with double carpal tunnel syndrome. That conversation stuck with me. Today, I'm so proud of our team at VelocityEHS for launching our AI Hands & Wrists Assessment - designed to help organizations identify and reduce the risks behind these injuries...before they become life-altering. Well done Rick Barker, CPE, CSP , Rachel Zoky, CPE , Blake McGowan, CPE , Julia Penfield, Ph.D. , and so many more 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This is about protecting the workforce, improving outcomes, and making sure fewer people have to tell that same story.
