I lived in Lisbon for years (best capital in the world, full stop!). Every day I walked through the Arco da Rua Augusta and looked up at that clock. For a long time, it wasn't moving. The hands had been removed for restoration. An 18th century clock, frozen in time, in the middle of one of Europe's most beautiful cities. Last year, the hands started turning again. And in e-invoicing right now, too many businesses are still frozen. 2027 is closer than it looks. Most businesses I speak to are still running country-by-country, IT-led responses to e-invoicing mandates. And it is creating real gaps: teams out of alignment, data quality issues flying under the radar, and systems so rigid they cannot absorb the next rule change without breaking. If that sounds familiar, you have less than a year before the next wave lands. France goes live in September, and the French tax authority is already encouraging businesses to join the pilot now. Germany, Spain and Slovakia are all hitting in 2027. The mandates are not waiting. I have put together a practical action plan covering how to map your exposure across every legal entity, get tax, IT and finance working together from the start (not in parallel, not in sequence), and build a system that can scale with your business as the regulatory landscape keeps shifting.
