May 2026Two numbers landed this week that every CEO should hold side by side. 1) JPMorgan is running a 2026 technology budget of $19.8 billion with 2,000 staff dedicated to AI. Meta has committed $115–135 billion in AI capital expenditure this year alone — nearly double last year. The scale of investment across the enterprise is extraordinary. 2) And Gartner predicts more than 40% of agentic AI projects will be cancelled by the end of 2027. Not because the technology doesn't work. Because the organizations deploying it aren't ready for it. Gartner's own analysts are blunt about the cause: most agentic AI projects are early-stage experiments driven by hype and misapplication. Seventy percent of developers report integration failures with existing systems. Forty-two percent of AI initiatives show zero measurable ROI — not because the agent failed, but because no one built the measurement framework, redesigned the workflow, or dealt with the legacy architecture underneath it first. Deloitte this week put it equally plainly: enterprises that are winning with agentic AI are the ones that redesigned their processes before deploying the agent, not after. This is the gap I spend most of my time in. Capital is not the constraint. The constraint is the operating model, the data architecture, the governance layer, and the people who have to work alongside these systems every day. Spend $19 billion on AI without fixing those foundations and you don't get transformation. You get expensive complexity. #Responsibletransformation means doing the hard work in the right order — people, process, technology — not the other way around. That sequence is unglamorous. It doesn't generate headlines the way a nine-figure capex commitment does. But it is the difference between the organizations that will look back at 2026 as the year they caught the wave🌊, and those that will be explaining to their boards why the investment didn't land. The wave is here. Make sure your foundation is built for it. 📎 Gartner: https://lnkd.in/e9M6a8V9 Sources: Gartner Agentic AI Forecast (June 2025, reconfirmed 2026); Deloitte Insights Agentic AI Strategy Report (2026); JPMorgan Chase 2026 Technology Budget; Meta Q1 2026 Earnings. #BusinessForesight #AIStrategy #ResponsibleTransformation #AltumWave #NextWave #DigitalTransformation #AltumStrategyGroup #Leadership
