Apr 2026We support the VAB and the work they are doing to help brands, agencies, and networks make sense of real change in audience measurement. ⚖️ If you can’t compare the numbers, how can you trust the numbers? I spend my days at VideoAmp talking with brands, agencies, and networks. One thing is clear: the ground is shifting. And the VAB is doing something the industry desperately needs right now: bringing data to a conversation that has been dominated by opinion. Comparability isn’t an academic exercise. It is how we separate real innovation from noise. It is how we know whether we are seeing a better methodology or just different math. And it is essential to the functioning of a futures market. If buyers and sellers can’t reliably project audiences, the market itself breaks down. That is why the VAB’s approach matters. Blind testing across multiple providers doesn’t cherry-pick a result; it reveals patterns. To benchmark Nielsen, the VAB ran blind tests using data from VideoAmp and Comscore, Inc.. The results were hard to ignore: Combined broadcast + cable: +109% vs. Nielsen, with just 9% variance One of these things is not like the others. And when billions of dollars are being guaranteed against these numbers, that should matter. Their response? “You pulled it wrong.” No counter-analysis. No transparency. Just dismissal. When buyers and sellers are flagging real volatility, and independent testing confirms what they are experiencing, shutting the conversation down without showing the work isn’t defending a methodology. It is avoiding scrutiny. This is a Media Rating Council accredited system. Transparency and comparability are not optional. They are the lifeblood of a futures market. Without the ability to forecast with confidence, you don’t have a currency - you have guesswork. And guesswork is not something this industry can transact on. That is the issue we need to confront: directly, openly, and with data. Read here: https://lnkd.in/ej9mY97y
