May 2026It might have been a top of the table clash in the Premier League at the weekend but the only big football game I watched (and had any interest in!) last week was Vistry Group Central Home Counties playing in their inaugural match as a team. They put in a great effort against a well‑organised Weston Homes Plc side and I couldn't be prouder (and might have been one of those 'competitive supporters' on the sidelines!) The opening 15 minutes were lively and Weston Homes took the lead early on. CHC responded well and began to get into the rhythm, putting Weston under pressure and forcing mistakes. That pressure led to a penalty, which Finlay Jeffreys converted confidently to make it 1-1. At the back, Alex Fairall had a busy game and made several important saves to keep the scores level. As the match went on, CHC became more solid and started to take control. The second half was mostly played in Weston’s half, and CHC were rewarded when Harry Hudson scored to give us a 2-1 lead. CHC looked set to win the game, but a late scramble allowed Weston Homes Plc to equalise right at the end, with the match finishing 2-2. Overall, it was a very encouraging performance from our newly formed team, showing good effort, organisation and plenty to build on. Thanks to Nik Barnes from Bishops Stortford Football Club for attending as Referee and we look forward to the rematch already. #Vistry #CHC #WestonHomes #friendlyrivals #partnerships

Apr 2026Today at RAF Upwood we welcomed twelve Level 2 Bricklaying students for a tour of the development and a chat with the team. The students from Cambridge Regional College (Huntingdon) are following a City and Guilds accredited course and are all looking for apprenticeships! I kicked off the talk by introducing the project before handing over to Denzil Morris, MIDLAND COUNTY GROUP Brickwork Contracts Manager, and Nathan Ashmore , Vistry Group Site Manager – between the two of them they have over 60 years bricklaying experience. Both explained how they started in construction and the importance of working hard, listening, and taking opportunities from a young age. We started the site tour looking at a joist lift, where they met Danny and his gang of bricklayers. It was good for them to see how they work as a team. Danny was more than happy to give pointers and advice on wall ties, cavity trays, and NHBC standards. It was also interesting seeing the age differences - Danny is 56 and the eldest member of his gang, Colin, is 67! They have two 25 year olds, Michael labouring and Kieran on the trowel – which gave the college kids a chance to speak to people nearer their ages about their more recent experience. We then moved on to Pod 6 where they saw the plots progress from roof to internals. They were keen to see a plot at first fix and Denzil explained about the various insulation types used. It was a pleasure to share our work with the next generation of bricklayers and hopefully I will be inducting them soon. #VistrySouthEastMidlands #SiteTour #EmployerEngagement #RAFUpwood #AviatorPark Vistry Group I Cambridge Regional College I MIDLAND COUNTY GROUP I Anneka Jones I Nathan Ashmore I The Hyde Group I NHBC
