Great to see Weil’s work highlighted by the FT in this article on the shift in US companies using London as a venue for debt restructuring. Although Fossil was a US company, the governing law of the debt was changed to English in an example of what we are calling ‘good forum shopping’ which allowed us to deploy a Part 26 restructuring plan under the Companies Act 2006 – a UK first. May 2026The Combined Claims Conference (CCC) conference is almost here! I hope you’ll join us next Wednesday for the closing general session from 2:15 to 3:15 PM in the Royal Ballroom. This session will feature an informative and captivating presentation on what happened to cause the devastation in Maui. It is a compelling topic for anyone who has visited the island before and/or after the fires, and it is a presentation you won't want to miss. We're looking forward to seeing you soon at the CCC!
May 2026Last night, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of Weil’s London office. A group of us were reflecting on how the office has evolved over time, and that many of us (now relative old-timers!) chose to join the firm as trainees in the late noughties when our recruitment slogan was “do something that scares you”. I’m not sure that this recruitment campaign is one we would run in 2026, and I have definitely never been “scared” at work! But the other things we were promised in 2008 - stimulation; challenge; intensity and exhilaration - all came true. More importantly, they continue to be hallmarks of the way we all enjoy practising law and delivering for clients: working together to deliver excellent results, often in challenging circumstances and sometimes against all the odds! It’s a lot of fun. Here’s to the next 30 years.

May 2026It was such a pleasure to moderate a panel on cross-border restructuring strategies at the INSOL International annual conference. Lord Justice Zacaroli, Eva Sit SC , and Pablo Falabella engaged in a lively informative discussion. Thanks to Weil associates Matt Conte and Gabriella Nordlund fo their great assistance in preparing us for the panel.
Apr 2026Rulemaking impacting private fund advisers has begun under the new SEC. Today, the SEC proposed reducing the burden of Form PF, including the following: • The proposed amendments would raise the Form PF filing threshold for all filers, from $150 million in private fund assets under management to $1 billion. • The proposed amendments would raise the reporting threshold for large hedge fund advisers from $1.5 billion in hedge fund assets under management to $10 billion. • In addition to amending these thresholds, the proposal also would streamline many Form PF requirements, including, but not limited to, by: eliminating certain “look through” requirements; eliminating certain performance volatility reporting requirements; simplifying certain large hedge fund counterparty exposure reporting; eliminating certain current reporting for large hedge fund advisers; eliminating quarterly event reporting for all private equity fund advisers; and making corrections and other revisions. More analysis to come from Weil. This likely is one of many proposals we should expect in the coming months from the SEC. https://lnkd.in/eE2eXN_2
