LinkedInEmployee Benefits

I had the opportunity to write WIRED 's Backchannel newsletter this week, and what started out as a simple question – Are companies cutting back on employee benefits because they're spending more on AI? — had a much more complicated answer. AI has been (and unfortunately will probably continue to be) a convenient excuse for the harmful decisions employers are making right now, from mass layoffs to reduced parental leave and 401k matching. But if you look at the whole system, it's one where the cost of employer-sponsored healthcare plans keep going up, up, up; where more citizens are opting out of the healthcare marketplace entirely, because subsidies are being stripped away; and where the US is one of a few industrialized nations that has no federal paid family leave policy. Seriously, this system is broken. https://lnkd.in/gYs-bCqq Thanks to Sarahjane Sacchetti and Joan C. Williams for your insights.
