We got internal feedback that the built-in Gmail MCP connector for one of the foundational LLMs we use was way too token-heavy.  So Josh Cramoy rebuilt it on Workato using Codex with Workato AIRO MCP Server in 1 DAY. He benchmarked the native connector, inspected the payloads, and found the issue: the model was getting flooded with data the user didn’t need, including full email headers and MIME details. With Workato, Josh rebuilt the Gmail MCP server. The result: - 30-75% fewer tokens depending on the workflow - 41% faster performance.
