Allbirds went from wool runners to AI tools. I had to know why. --> How did a shoe company quietly turn into an AI company? Allbirds, the brand that built its whole identity on carbon neutral wool running shoes is now shipping an AI tool. When I first read it, my reaction was the same one you probably just had... why? what?? Turns out the "why" is the interesting part. - Their DTC growth stalled. TLDR; growth playbook hit a wall, revenue dropped, inventory piled up, the stock slid, competitors continued to grow and innovation stalled. - Founder likely wanted to bank the cash and move to whats hot...AI. Just my thoughts, A pivot isn't always a failure. Sometimes it's the honest acknowledgement that the thing you built to run your business is more valuable than the thing you were selling. Whats your feedback?
